The euro zone’s inflation rate dropped to 9.2% in December from 10.1% in November, helped by a sharp fall in the cost of energy.

Goldman Sachs started a cull of around 6% of its employees, its biggest cost-cutting exercise since the financial crisis of 2007-09.
